COMPLIANCE WITH COSHH

On the 1st October 1989, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations became law. These have now been superseded by COSHH Regulations 2002 which are now in force. The main requirement of COSHH is that employers must make a thorough assessment of the risks to health involved with any activity that exposes the workforce to hazardous substances.

VENTILATION SYSTEMS

Ventilation is an essential element in controlling hazardous substances in the workplace. In order to work, it must operate at maximum effectiveness.

COSHH recognises this and includes a requirement to test control ventilation systems at regular intervals.

NOISE & VIBRATION

High levels of noise can cause headaches, lack of efficiency and interfere with communication.

Exposure to high noise levels can induce hearing loss ultimately leading to deafness.

The Noise at Work Regulations 1989 define Action Levels at which noise becomes a health hazard and enforces documented assessment of those employees exposed to any noisy process.

Since April 2006, far stricter noise level regulations operate compared to previous limits. In addition, new vibration regulations are also now in force.

ESF have the specialist equipment and expertise to test noise levels to ensure your company complies with its statutory obligations. We also advise about ear protection and give guidance on possible noise reduction.

LABORATORY SERVICES

Our analytical chemistry investigations are conducted using a comprehensive range of analytical techniques including Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrometry, X-Ray Crystallography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry, Ultra-Violet/Visible Spectrometry.

These investigations are carried out by a UKAS accredited laboratory either in-house or subcontracted.
